Who is Nic
Nic Douglass, also known as the “Sailor Girl,” is a renowned Australian sailor, multi-platform journalist, commentator, and media personality.
Nic started sailing at a young age and has been successful in numerous international regattas and championships. Her love for the sport led her to pursue a career in sailing journalism, where she has become a well-respected and prominent figure in the sailing world especially in regards to diversity and inclusion.
She is a three-time open World Champion Tasar sailor, has won two Olympic level grade one events in Women’s Match Racing while on the Australian Sailing Development Squad training for the London Olympics 2012, and has been crowned Australian National Champion over ten-times in various classes across fleet and match racing.
Originally trained in corporate communications with a BA Communication, and Post-Graduate degrees in Marketing and Psychology, Nic worked across a range of strategic communication and broadcast positions for over ten years in her earlier career.
Known for her bubbly personality, infectious energy, and unwavering enthusiasm for sailing, it was only a matter of time before the sailing and communications passions collided, and Nic found her purpose in life, to promote the sport that she loves.
Through her business Adventures of a Sailor Girl or @SailorGirlHQ, Nic produces content promoting sailing events, brands, and sailors themselves while following events around the world. Her media coverage of sailing events, including interviews with sailors and behind-the-scenes glimpses to bring forward the sport’s personalities, has earned her a large following on social media and also led to being awarded Australian Sailing’s ‘Sport Promotion Award’ for three years running (2017, 2018, 2019).
Nic was the on-site host and English Announcer for VIPs, Athletes, Officials, Sport Personnel, and all Victory Ceremonies for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (Sailing), is currently the Global Adrenaline Lounge Host for the SailGP, and will be the “Attack Reporter” for World Sailing at the World Sailing Championship at The Hague in 2023.
